LIGHTS’ mission is to strengthen operational security awareness deployed at asset owners within critical infrastructure by establishing methods for the timely exchange of relevant information between asset owners, managed security service providers, and tactical analysis centers providing wide area correlation and analysis.
Ralph Langner is the researcher who reverse engineered the Stuxnet worm after it was discovered in June of 2010. Stuxnet destroyed 2,000 Iranian uranium centrifuges. In March of 2011 Mr. Langner gave a TED Talk on Stuxnet and the implications of related threats on industrial control systems. This short video is a good summary of the reasons the LIGHTS program was created.
